Billy Priestley has moved to Colne FC

"We'd like to thank Billy for his contributions over the years, his dedication & efforts will be remembered for the right reasons."

Billy Priestley has decided to move to Colne FC and will join up with manager Paul Weller in the North West Counties, in the division below.

We can confirm that Danny Caldecott & the club made it clear they wanted Billy to continue to play for Clitheroe this season, but unfortunately he received an offer from Colne that he felt was too good to turn down, including the opportunity to play for his hometown club in the twilight of his playing career.

Billy Priestley has been ever present in the Clitheroe FC squad over the past 4 seasons, including becoming player manager before later stepping down to continue playing full time. Captaining the team on many occasions, while also being a great person to have at the club, to which the fans loved.

This move has been the decision of Billy Priestley, although disappointing, the club respects his decision and would like to thank him for his contributions over the years, his dedication & efforts will be remembered for the right reasons.

Billy's message to the fans:

"The fans have been unbelievable to me, you can hear them on the pitch both home & away and it really does help you get that extra bit out of the tank and want to win for them. I love going over to them after the games to thank them for their support and seeing them enjoying themselves in the bar afterwards."

"I will definitely miss them, Clitheroe, the lads I have played with and all the volunteers that do a great job there. I hope this club carries on progressing."

We appreciate this news may come as surprise to some supporters, but you must know, the club & Danny Caldecott have acted professionally & desired to keep Billy, and would appreciate your support more than ever as we look to progress & challenge for promotion in the NPL West Division.
