SITTING 51 places above Clitheroe in the English football pyramid system Chorley are a formidable side, perched in 8th place of the Vanarama Conference North The Magpies will be a tough challenge for The Blues.
Scoring a total of 84 goals in the league this season and 12 in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy The Magpies are to be feared, along with this our Monday night opponents have conceded only three goals in their cup run.
In that run the side managed by Gary Flitcroft have beaten, Barrow AFC, AFC Darwen and Holker Old Boys. Demolishing Darwen 7-1 and cruising past Old Boys three goals to none in the semi-final.
That Darwen game was their biggest win of the season, a game in which Josh Hine scored two of his eleven this season, he’ll be a goal threat in this final. Along with Hine Chorley hold in their artillery the Conference North’s fifth highest goal scorer, James Dean, he’s a daydream in front of goal, scoring 18 in the league. Though the threat doesn’t end there, Jack Lynch has scored three on The Magpies’ migration to The Macron, watch out Blues’ defence.
Though recent performances aren’t perfect, since reaching the final Chorley have won only once, picking up seven points from a possible 21, scoring 12 and conceding 15 in that run.
Simon Garner’s men travel to The Macron as clear underdogs, but form would suggest The Magpies’ wings can be clipped.
However, history is on Flitcroft’s side, the Victory Park side have won this trophy 15 times, most recently in the 2011/12 season, nonetheless they’ve more frequent been the runners up, on 17 occasions Chorley have been bettered at the last hurdle, most recently last year against AFC Flyde.
