This weekend The Blues travel to County Durham to face Spennymoor FC, here’s an in-depth look at the side in sixth.

Managed by Jason Ainsley The Moors are an impressive side this season, flying high on 59 points despite playing only 30 league games this season, less than anyone else in the Evo-Stik First Division North

In relation to goals Spennymoor have scored 55 this season, seven less than Clitheroe but it’s in defence where the North Eastern side are at their most formidable. Only conceding 29 goals this league campaign the team in black and white have the second best defence in the First Division North, only Darlington top trumps them at the back with a mere 27 goals against them.

The club founded in 1904 boast further impressive stats, failing to score in only three league games this season and haven’t lost a league game since the 3rd of January this year, a run nine games since then has seen Spennymoor find the net 16 times and pick up 21 points.

A man to watch in this tie is Chris Mason, Club Captain and in his 6th season the 27-year-old has represented the Moors over 200 times. Mason leads by example and rated by many as the best defender in the Northern Leagues. The bearded Mason has also played for Darlington, Gateshead, Harrogate Town and Swedish club Ostavalls IF.

Expect a good crowd at The Brewery Field with The Blues’ Saturday hosts bragging the highest attendance thus far in the league along with the second highest attendance in all the Evo-Stik sponsored leagues. Their hosting of more than 1,800 supporters against Darlingotn at the start of the season is only bettered by FC United’s recent 2000 plus crowds.

If Bamber Bridge and Scarborough Athletic fluff their lines against Prescot Cables and Radcliffe Borough respectively then a win for Spennymoor would see them rise to fourth place.
