Two goals in the opening 12 minutes set the tone for the rest of the game. On 6 minutes, James Walker was allowed room to turn and he finished well from ten yards out. The second goal on 12 minutes came from a delightful through ball from David Lynch to Walker on the left flank, who hit a perfect centre for Dom Mulkerrin to score from six yards.
Shelley had a goal disallowed for offside before Blues went 3-0 up on 21 minutes. Danny Wilkins ran in to the box and was brought down by a defender for a clear penalty. Wilkins took himself and confidently put the kick to the keeper's right.
Wilkins in the thick of the action on 29 minutes when he got round the Shelley right back and his inch perfect cross fell to Mulkerrin whose shot was blocked by a defender. On 33 minutes Richatd Burns was sent clear and he unselfishly squared across to Mulkerrin, whose shot was unfortunate to come back off the post.
Shelley got a goal back on 42 minutes when from a long throw, a lack of communication between keeper and defenders let a Shelley player in to score. Further chances fell to Burns whose shot was save and a Wilkins chip over the keeper brushed the top off the crossbar.
Half time: Shelley 1 Clitheroe 3
Blues finished the game off within seven minutes of the second half, with two more goals. On 50 minutes saw Lynch dribble in to the box unchallenged and cooly placed the ball past the keeper. Blues 5th was a strange one with Simon Garner being pulled down on the edge of the box, but somehow the ball went loose and the player manager managed to get a touch and the ball trickled over the line off the post.
The opposition's heads were down by then and with both teams making substitutions the Blues dominated from then on.
Scott Byrom scored Blues sixth goal on 63 minutes when he finished well on a one on one with the keeper. Callum Hoctor who was one of the second half subs had to come off on 70 minutes when he received a bang in the face.
On 75 minutes another penalty for the Blues was converted by Burns and the scoring was completed on 78 minutes when Liam Hoyle's shot was deflected in by a defender, but it looked like it was going in anyway.
Brent Wood-Townend came close to scoring a ninth goal, but his powerful shot was saved brilliantly by the Shelley keeper.
An impressive all-round display from the Blues and the team looks like it's coming together well with the league season now less than two weeks away.
